Newly appointed Shutter Creek Correctional Institute Superintendent Kimberly Hendricks address volunteers introducing herself and CORE.
“Correctional Outcomes through Research and Engagement” CORE
The new ODOC initiative was announced this week to an audience of Volunteers and DOC Staffers at a meeting held in Coos Bay.
Oregon DOC is noteworthy in that by statistical measure, recidivism rates are among the lowest for offenders incarcerated in the state.
We note that just because a former inmate hasn’t been re-aprehended for a felony in the past three years, doesn’t infer minor offenses or that they are remaining sober.
It’s interesting that as we begin to turn the helm at CRI to focus on re-entry support, ODOC seems to be initiating similar processes. In any case we presume engagement means deeper dialogue with volunteer organizations and their ability to support their programs “outside the gate.” CR / CRI is a perfect fit!
We’re looking forward to hearing more.
